She lives in a locket
somewhere deep in a drawer
nestled between love letters
unsent.
unseen.
unsavored.

With this angel around my neck
I used to swear to her God
my lungs would burst
from exhilaration.

Now it is a cool bullet
brushed against thin skin
hiding a crumpled breath

Still
as she walks by
I can see the heart-shaped halo
once framed around her head
and now forever in a locket.
