I bend

they say i'm strong
i've stood,
i stand
i bend
but never do i break
i've beaten it down
and made it through
i bend
i twist
but never break.
i've been told i inspire
they live because i could
they stand because i could.
they say they see
i bend
i twist
i creak
but never break.
that's what they say; that's what they've seen
but in the silence
where they can't see
where darkness creeps
and there is nothing but the sky and the scars
i bend
i twist
i creak
i crack.
and i break.
