"Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear - not absence of fear."

The bright sun rises
Burning like a torch
A sign of faith
For a brand new day

A gentle horizon
Reflecting the flow of the great sun
Is broken only by the churning water
Crashing against reef and rock

There is only silence
Before the choir starts to sing
And the bugs start to dance
And the whole world comes alive once more

Leather tough feet
Flit across hot concrete
Over dirt paths
Making their journey to the promise land

The breeze carries a certain freshness
Wind catches the fragrance of the tropical plants
Twirling and spinning towards the shore
To mingle with the salt and seaweed

Heat pounds down
Warming the golden sand
Melting the artists
Into pools of sweat

Once they dive in they are powerless
The constant swell is in control
Rocking the bodies like rag dolls
Up and down, up and down

The North Show on Oahu of the Hawaiian islands is a favorite place of mine. In the poem I tried to capture the raw beauty of the North Shore, and the feelings it brings with it’s magnificence.
