My Dog
That soft fur, fluffy and full of color.
Those loyal brown eyes, able to look into my soul.
That playful yip, full of life.
That funny little play bow, urgent and uplifting.
That cold, wet nose, prodding me and waking me from any sadness.
That soft jingle of your collar, always reminding me that you’re there.
That click-clack of your claws on the wood floor, a constant in my life.
Those ever present hairs that cling to me, no matter where I am.
That warm body, curling up next to me and keeping me warm.
That expression, made when you hear a dog on the TV.
That scruffy face, with its bushy eyebrows and beard.
That tail, always wagging.
That sad look whenever I leave, begging me not to go.
Those scraps of food, making me laugh as they bounce off your nose each and every time.
That unconditional love, never faltering.
That simple joy, seen whenever you’re fed, walked, or petted.
That childish innocence, making me laugh at times.
That unending patience, keeping you with me to the end.
That is the one I’ll never stop loving, not in a million years.
That is the tiny creature who sticks by my side every moment.
That is the friend who always listens, no matter what.
That is the family member whose joy is infectious.
That is my dog.
