Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain.

Death is an ever present shadow hanging over all of us.
Over my friends and I as we rejoice in our youth.
Over the elders as I sit at their feet and listen to their tales.
Over me while I sing in the glen.
Death comes for us all.
Death is what all creatures everywhere have in common.
Death waits patiently to take us home.

All at once all my elderly friends died and my father bought a gun to put sick animals down. Death. I became so familiar with it I called it a friend. Like the neighbor who's house you pass and wave at them while they sit on the porch.

I like the end where you wrote about death coming to take us home. It makes the whole thing sound not so...doom-ish. Nice job with this!
