Bicker
The sound of fans drive me crazy,
Bathroom fans in particular.
And when we're older,
That's what we'll fight about.
We'll fight about how you never remember to turn off the fan.
And how I can never give you
Straight answers.
About how I can never tell you
When I'm sad.
Even when it feels as if the whole universe
Is trying to push me out of existence.
(Please, pretend you didn't see me crying?)
We'll fight because I'm insecure and noticed you looking at
That girl at the grocery store,
So I told you to just go be with her.
But we'll never fight because
You left a sock in the hall.
Or because you left the empty carton in the fridge.
Or because you forgot to take the trash out.
That's just never been who I am.
But we'll fight because that's the life
I think you want
And deserve.
When we're older
We'll fight because I'm scared you want a life
That I will never be able to give you.
