Back Then
What happened to us?
The simple songs that we knew
The imperfect pictures
We shamelessly drew
What happened to us?
The carnival painted faces
And rainbow-colored nails
The little-girl dreams
That took off like sails
What happened to us?
Unafraid of being wrong
Sure there was a place in this world
We undoubtedly belonged
What happened to us?
Fearless and carefree
Living in a reality
Where anything could be
What happened to us?
Things so quickly complicate
We’re now clinging onto childhood
Praying it’s not too late.
What happened to us?
So little, so blind to our luck
For all we wanted back then
Was to be grown-up.
What happened to us?
We got our wish
And now we’re being served regret
Every grown-ups' favorite dish.
