I used to step into my mother's shoes
How big those were back then!
Back then I would have never known
My height would exceed her own
How odd, look now at these swings!
Were they not once parallel to stomach?
Sitting now, I did not go as high
As high as I used to go
Elementary had shrunk like a raisin
Junior high had reached growing
Walking from here to there used to tire me
Now the time simply flies
Like a baby bird leaving its nest
Something so familiar
Years tend to alter one, no?
Recollecting these histories, memories, and pasts
Counting beyond the digits of my hands
One wonders if this is the desired future
When one longs for the past
