Au Contraire
As I walk by, you see a high school student.
A loud-mouthed hooligan.
A defiant,
Disrespectful,
Unethical,
Uninterested,
Don’t-give-a-crap teenager.
Oh the contrary, sir or madame.
You see, when you decide to ignore the stereotypes
You’ll see the real me.
A care-giving,
Life-living,
Thought-thinking,
Action-taking
Teenager.
One who’s not afraid to ask questions
Both to you and of you.
You see,
I’m not okay with the image society has placed on me.
An image blurred by misconceptions.
Pixellated by bad examples,
Edited by optimists,
Distorted by pessimists
An image I’m working on forming.
Or, re-forming.
Because as I see it,
My image is my first impression.
The preface to my story,
The preview to my movie.
The opening act to my main attraction.
It’s my last defense.
My Finale.
As I walk by, you see one thing…
An image.
