Where I'm From
I am from screwdrivers,
Lawn mowers and oil
From the smell of fresh cut grass
I am from bamboo,
Lilies and orchids
from the little bouquets of pansies
I am from lake 22,
And old tree stump forts
From lemon chicken and spicy pasta
I am from Joanne and John
From "Shut up and sit down" and "Nobody cares"
I am from blonde hair and blue eyes
From "We take pride in our work"
Morning chocolate and strawberry smoothies
I am from a smart sense of humor
And 8 foot deep pool
I am from play sets,
And makeshift watersides
From the wake up calls at 6 am
I am from the three sets of church clothes
And polka dot pattern dresses
I am from the marines that fought for our freedom
From the pictures on the dining room wall
Knowing some of them and wondering about others
I am from trench coats, fedoras, and white dresses
They are me and I am them.
