In The Woods
She waited for him in the woods,
Just there, where he had told her to wait.
She waited for him in the woods,
Endless woods, like her own hair.
Deep, dark, tangled, yet so beautiful.
Rows of bougainvillea surrounded her,
With leaves as bright as her own eyes,
Shining bright anticipation and anxiety.
Thirsty for the sight of his arrival,
She waited for him in the woods.
She waited for him in the woods;
Pacing around gracefully;
Her steps as light as a butterfly.
The sun shone bright, like her own face;
Her face was alight with eagerness.
‘You’re mine; I’ll take you away with me.’
She blushed like a rose when she remembered his words.
She blushed right then, thinking of him.
Starving for a sign of his sight,
She waited for him in the woods.
She waited for him in the woods,
But time is fluid, time flows away.
She kept waiting, but he never came.
The tears in her eyes glistened in the twilight.
It was too late, there was no hope.
But her heart was firm, her belief was strong.
She stayed there, in the woods,
In the cold, rains and storms.
Pacing around gracefully, thirsty for the sight of his arrival,
She still waits for him in the woods.
