Intense Heat

Hands that have been burnt so many times
Unable to be bothered by intense heat
Colored slightly black from coal dust
But somehow smooth to the touch
Holding her hand gently
As he leads her to the dance floor
An artist's hand covered by a sailors

Years later they are still together
With four children
Raised by a soft yet authoritative hand
He no longer has coal dust on his hands
But he still has an inability to care about intense heat
He can feel the heat emitting off of her though
Every time they hold hands he can feel her love

And when he is away and can't feel the heat
He looks down at the band on the left
Wiggling it up a little to see the tan
Pale white skin surrounded by tan
A line created from years of heat from love
