Peter Pan
*For my friend Mairead
Why do we have to grow up
and become the adults some dread to be?
Why can’t we all be a bunch of kids?
I never want to act so seriously.
Why can’t we go back in time?
To when things were better than they are now.
Why can’t we let drama pass us by.
And all journey off to Neverland?
Why can’t we act like one of the lost boys,
Or try to defeat Captain Hook,
Even fly like TinkerBell,
Just like in the storybook?
I don’t want to grow up,
There are so many things I want to do
So before life passes you by,
Believe, so Peter Pan and you can fly.
