I'm empty like a drum
And cold like an Empty One
Why did you steal me?
All of me escapes
Into your warm embrace
Cue the solar eclipse
I watched you
As you stood up and took a bow
And walked out of my life
Ran out of my life
I'm a zombie, undead
You said I was golden
You forced me to go black
I'm living my little white lie
Showing up and smiling
Crying inside
Absorbing the music
And writing so loud
Are you like me?
Do you not notice anything?
I must be insane
To think you wanted me back
I bet I am
Let's go get the autumn leaves
Peel them off the frozen street
And let them carry me out of reality
Little boy handing me a bear
Grown up boy handing me heartbreak
When did you change?
When did this little bear
Change into my only link to the old you
This isn't fun
Being alone at Christmas
This peppermint winter is so cold
And not very sweet
What's December without Christmas Eve?
What's Christmas without you?
Joyful turned joyless
I fall into the snow
Letting it all go to waste
The cold never bothered me anyway

The author's comments:
Kind of missing someone around the holidays... Missing the morning texts you used to send me and the 'Merry Christmas' that I never received. But the cold does bother me, I just thought that would be a good way to conclude the poem.

Thanks. I usually play words off of songs and books I'm reading. When I do, I usually have a reason...

I also noticed what EmmaClaire did and I thought that this was very descriptive and well written! Great job!

The peppermint winter comment is a play on the song 'Peppermint Winter' by Owl City. And at the time I wrote this, I was reading a book called Paranormalcy, which features an 'Empty One' which is a paranormal creature with no soul. When I was little, the person who this is about and I would pretend we were paranormal creatures and such.

"Be the change you wish to see in the world."

This flowed very smoothly. In the second line "Empty One" isn't the best simile to use in my opinion. I mean, what is an empty one (rhetorical)? I feel like you put that there just because it sounds poetic. Also, when you say "peppermint winter" and then say "not very sweet" that is very controversal. Peppermints are sweet so if this isn't a sweet winter why is like peppermints? Those are my two biggest critics about this poem. It's very well written.
