Of Dark Things
The fire
then the embers
the coal colored ashes
the shattered bits of glass
the booms,
the cries,
the wounded weeping;
the sights of battle
etched in my eyes
the dying
and murdered
and gunshots resounding
and dulled spikes of hatred
the war is over.
but tears fall
and neighbors cry.
