Gasping for Breath
I walked to class
My leg ached from the other day
When all I did was run
And jump
And fall
And I laughed like it didn't hurt
Because I was afraid to let them see
And I couldn't look in the mirror this morning
Because it hurt to think about my body
And I thought
fat
unlovable
forgettable
And I thought
To who?
And I walked to class
And I looked at the leaves
They're so much like people
They start and end the same
But they become various shades
There, in the middle
And I thought about my heart
How sometimes it stings
And how God might not even exist
But emotions sure do
And I thought
Why can't I love myself
And I thought
And no answer came
