Hourglass
Life is like an hourglass
Every second drifting closer to the end
It attacks you like a blizzard
But grants wishes like a wizard
Each tiny grain depicts time that has passed you
Suddenly your time is done, it's drained too fast
Once youthful and greedy
Now frail, weak, and needy
Days are an hourglass
One big soap opera yanking our heartstrings
Hours turn to days
And days turn into years
Our fragile souls are broken
From sweet to sour are our tears
Screaming oh so silently
Tossing, turning violently
Death is an hourglass
One last grain,
You've spent the rest
Whittling away your time
Slugging around not knowing when
The casket gets lowered
Funeral bells toll
The last grain has dropped
And so have you

“When it's over, I want to say: all my life
I was a bride married to amazement.
I was the bridegroom, taking the world into my arms.

When it is over, I don't want to wonder
if I have made of my life something particular, and real.
I don't want to find myself sighing and frightened,
or full of argument.

I don't want to end up simply having visited this world.”
