The sun is out but it's still dark outside.

2 a.m
2 a.m and I'm up thinking, dreaming with my eyes open
Twisting my hair.
I hear the sound I dread but long to hear
Your ringtone.

I pick up
You slur my name in a raspy, tired voice that you know I love
And I answer, saying your name slow, cautiously as if your name is poison to my tongue.

It's 2 a.m and I'm out in these streets
The same streets we used to walk down, holding hands.
It's 2 a.m and I'm out in these streets alone, walking to you.
You open the door like you're afraid of what's coming in
And I walk in like it's my first time going into a man's house alone.

It's 2 a.m and we out here doing things grown folk can't even admit to doing.
You touch me so feverishly, crazed with the feel of my skin
I was a virgin all over again, new to this type of love..lust.

It's 2 a.m and we're loving.

You look at me as if you've never seen me before
And I look up at you as if I've loved you my whole life..
I start to tear up because I know I have.

It's 7 a.m and I'm out here in these streets with a cigarette between my lips
And your favorite shirt on my back.
I'm walking down these streets
The same streets we used to walk down, holding hands.

It's 7 a.m and I'm walking from a man's house..
I just got done doing grown things..
