Swimming
Goggles snapped on, hair shoved in,
She’s pristine, crisp, and clean.
Legs in unison, both hands clasped,
In the chlorine festered pool, she gasped.
Pushing off and stretching out,
Swimming like a tenacious trout.
Kaboom! Splish, splash, splish, splash.
In parallel lanes along the margin of the pool,
Friends and foes compete, thunderbolts unleashed,
Struggling, striving, fighting, flying.
Ragged breathing like a dragon steaming.
Screeching, squealing, shrilling, shouting.
Then at last, the race is done,
The winner’s won, the crowd is stunned,
And while they howl, yowl and shriek,
She now knows she’s on a winning streak.
