The Song of the Herd
The ones without a name, no words, no will to observe
Faces like ours, take part in our shame
Should they speak for themselves, a dirge, a voice to be heard
One lie sits high above else: their pain is our gain
Awake from reverie, I call, I dream as I fall
faith in what's bought, to liven my life
Stagnate in rivalry, a wall, I seethe as I crawl
think in bitter thought, to thrive upon strife
We've pierced the night, with tools of light
beat back the beasts, a'flame of fight
We've tamed the trees, to squelch our needs
we murdered God, to set us free
The night persists, in the shadowed mind
the beasts will live, enslaved in time
The trees all scream, a scourge of seed
the gods exist as fuel for greed
I'll take no pris'ners, when I go
I am wont to wish to watch us grow
to see us reach the fabled lands
Sea of stars, the cosmic dance
The men who seized the spoon of truth
to muck about the mystic soup, the scoop
that those at war, don't die in peace
for battles stew in blind belief
While defenseless suffer at the hands of men,
we live in clouds of glib and yen
If you wish for all these things to end,
look without, and look within
Surround yourself in all the things
that remind you of your deepest dreams
It is better to die alone, a tortured soul
than to live a leech, in a tortured home
As we walk upon the sand and stone,
we pay no heed to the earth below
We assume the grass shall always grow.
