"I realize there's something incredibly honest about trees in the winter, how they're experts at letting things go." - Jeffrey McDaniel

When I look in the mirror, I see ugly.
I see zits.
I see oil.
I see dirt and I see grime.
I see smudges.
I see stray hairs.
I see a crooked smile.
I see things out of place.
I see things just a little off.
I see big ears.
I see an even bigger nose.
I see too heavy of makeup.
I see not enough makeup.
I see fat.
I see a thick neck.
I see saggy arms.
I see a pudgy stomach.
I see giant legs.
I see fat.
I see ugly.
I see wrong. When I look in the mirror.
No, when I look in the mirror, I see things wrong.
Because when I break the mirror, I do not see, I believe.
I believe in my good.
I believe in my thoughts.
I believe in my sincere smile.
I believe in my bright eyes.
I believe in my laugh lines.
I believe in my thirsty heart.
I believe in my good intentions.
I believe in my drive.
I believe in my desire.
I believe in my longing for more.
I believe in my deeper thoughts.
I believe in my new ideas.
I believe in my new combinations of ideas.
And I believe in my words.
I believe in lots of my words.
I believe in things never seen before.
I believe beneath the skin.
I believe in my bones.
And my muscles and my organs.
All pumping and working together for the same purpose.
I believe in the life inside of me.
When I break the mirror, I see all the things hidden behind it’s reflective yet deceiving surface.
I see for real.
And I believe for the first time.
