Tearing Ties
Sheltered, warm,
In the spring of life.
Unfettered, uncomplicated.
Spring's newborn child,
New year's lamb.
Innocent as first season's blossom.
Now young child,
No longer coddled,
Not quite as needy.
Yearling growing into autumnal coat,
Strong legs now eager to run.
No naivetey left to shed,
More room needed to wander.
Strong desire to flee familiar cage,
Growing old, wizened,
Rusted with time.
