Thirst No More
Stranded amidst life’s desert sands
A helpless cry emanates from within
Desperately, you crave something to
Quench this brutal thirst
Beads of sweat drip down your neck
Your weary eyes fight to stay open
The sun above sears like a laser
Parching your withered skin
Vagabond, desolate wanderer
Condemnation rears its ugly head
Tired and weak, you sink to the ground-
Shamefaced.
Like a crystal orb, a single droplet falls on your face
You feel it sting as it slides down
Your cheek and onto your lips
Lifting up your face in amazement, you hear
A sound like a rushing mighty wind
Whipping past, blowing up the sand
And carrying the dirt off your skin
Your cracked lips turn up in a smile
In a moment, cool rain pours down
Saturating your stagnant body
You cup your hands and drink this living water,
Feeling your tongue regain its moisture, its life
Drink up; this is the water that quenches all thirst
Washing away your guilt
And shame as condemnation drowns
In a pool of God’s redeeming blood
Let this well inside of you
Spring up into everlasting life
In the distance a voice whispers:
“I AM that I AM. Come unto me and thirst no more.”
