In the ridges of the tree bark
where the ants with pincers roam
And the birds
which in the summer
Stuff in grass
to lay their eggs
Where the toddler's little fingers
led trails of hidden prints
And where the lady
rests her head
When her soldier-son
has died
Deep within the ridges
where memories are stored

The tree absorbs
your hunger
And gathers in
your fear
Nestles all
the worry
And rejoices
happy dreams
Deep within the ridges
I wonder what you'll bring.

Thank you so much to Johnathan Rand's author camp in Wolverine, Michigan!!! This poem was inspired in one of the writing workshops they have when I saw a ridged tree nearby. Thank you!

Ooh I really like this one. Because I love trees. And this was a very interesting way to describe a tree. Normally when people write about trees, they write about the branches and leaves. But you wrote about the ridges in the bark. It's so original and I love it. I especially loved the part, "The tree absorbs your hunger and gathers in your fear" I don't know I just really liked it. Great job!

I love how i can really picture the story you're telling. Very clever!

This is really great. What an interesting idea. I love it!
