“She seems so cool, so focused, so quiet, yet her eyes remain fixed upon the horizon. You think you know all there is to know about her immediately upon meeting her, but everything you think you know is wrong. Passion flows through her like a river."

My life is plagued
by the things I thought
to say too late
by the silent arguments
that I have with myself
by the tears I bite back
by the curses I mutter
only to myself
but I guess...
I guess that's okay
because it gives me
something to hold onto
something to be angry about
because these days
that's what keeps me going
I feel like I'm living
in a silent film
and the audience jabbers away
they think I have nothing to say
when really,
I am bursting at the seams.

L'esprit d'escalier is the French term for when you've thought of rebuttals after the conversation has ended. It translates both into 'the spirit of the staircase' and 'staircase wit.'
