Stolen Magic
Once upon a time,
I had a writer’s bump
on my right middle finger.
I stole a pencil with frogs on it
so my words would have magic in them.
Now my fingers all feel the same
and all of the pencils that I have
are dull from their overuse, but
no matter how hard I press the pencil to paper,
the magic is still dried up
and my words
don’t mean anything.
Somewhere in my desk is an unsharpened pencil with frogs on it, but I know
I won’t ever use it again.
