Sunset
As the sun lowers in the sky
Dips into the horizon
throwing out splashes of color
berry bright red
tongues of orange flame
the blue of the night sky
reaching out to engulf
the world
that time
that's not quite dark
not quite light
and you can see the first glimmers of stars
and the final rays
of the dying sun
as it sinks beneath the horizon
throwing out colors
as if onto a painter's palette
the last attempt
to hold onto the light
a final flash
burning bright
and then
darkness
