Thump, thump, thump, thump,
Thump, thump, thump, thump,
The pounding beat of a heart,
Steady and unchanging staccato,
A calm, collective rhythm,
Until our gazes meet
And you make my heart—
THUMP-a-thump, a-thump-thump,
Thump-thump, thump-a-THUMP.
Each faltering beat racing past another—
THUMP-a-thump,
My heart attempting to fly
Out of my very chest—
Thump, thump-THUMP,
Before my brain has a chance to tell me—
THUMPTHUMPTHUMPTHUMP
That your sweet gaze
Could give me a heart attack…
