The View
The View
By: Margaret Filipic
I stood there
Staring
It was a beautiful view.
Layers and layers of rock
Not just any rock
Full of colors
Jagged edges
Nothing else like it
Breathtaking.
Take a step too close
And that’s the end
Take a step back
And you want to be closer
You want to stay there
Stay there forever
Never go back
Back to a safer reality,
A place of stress
Where you can’t find peace
Or silence
Only anxiety
Stress
And commotion
Never a time to relax
Take a breath
Or a break.
But the view,
You can only think
About one thing-
The present moment.
Not later or earlier
Just now.
You look down.
Do you feel it?
Pure freedom.
You are unstoppable
It’s scary
The thought of freedom
You are in control
In control of your own thoughts
Your own actions
Nobody is holding you back.
At this moment,
You are the only one stopping yourself
