The Eyes of Gatsby and Daisy
Open
In the distance, a singular green light
Eyes floating toward eyes
Gazes meet, connections made
Lips come toward lips
Flashy parties, fine shirts, big houses
Close
Open Close
Keep closed
Now, lips coming toward lips again
She blossoms like a flower
His incarnation complete
The two forever wed
The gleaming eyes meet, meet alone in space
Open
Fleeting image vanishes
Blink
But there is no “we” here, only a “he” and a “she"
Snapshot
A mantelpiece clock lilts forward, frozen in time, interrupting
Window
In the distance, a green light no more
Distorted beyond the eyes’ power of correction…
… Into eternal blindness, they sink
