insomnia
At night
I lie awake
for what seems like
days
I think of
every mistake
of every flaw
that has wore me down
and made me raw
I think of how
I’d much rather be
asleep for eternity,
oh so peacefully
in these hours
that I leave myself in despair
I feel that the darkness
strips me bare
and I lie
as a skeleton
pale boned
without hope
and once again
the night becomes my skin
the moon my brain
the stars my faith
and my thoughts my shame
