Utterly Emotionless

It comes in flashbacks
The horrifying images
Swirling through my head
Reminding me of a troubled past

Seething anger defining his face
His face contorted, absolute evil
In an instant the bomb went off
Leaving everyone in its wake defenseless

I could have had a grand day
But he didn’t care
The monster doesn’t know names
It inhabits your body and takes over
Until you turn into a monster yourself

Everybody who lived in that house
Put on a mask the second they walked in
Utterly emotionless, you had to be silent
That was the only way to survive

You had to sit there and endure the craziness
If you let your feelings slip out
That was when the monster surfaced
Bearing his sharp teeth and ice cold heart
Letting you know that nobody ever recovers
From his blows to your self esteem

The sad thing is that he never
Used to be that way
One day so loving and gentle
The next stone cold and evil

Fathers are always said
To never hurt or scare you
They’re supposed to protect
You from all danger

But what happens when your father
Is the one putting you in danger?
And is the one person you’re terrified of?

Again, this is great work!!! Oh but this poem is so sad :c I'm guessing your father was abusive? Either way it's still sad
