The Holocaust was an evil act
On the Jewish culture it was an oppressive smack

Put in a concentration camp
On one hand a tattooed stamp
A Jew was fed little bread
Many wound up dead

Hitler was the evil genius planner
He used lots of propaganda, even banners
To make a perfect society
Only blondes with baby blues--no variety
The Germans believed his word
Even though it was quite absurd

The Allies came to help stop the war
Some Jews thought they’d be saved for sure
Not all of them did live
Those who did have a story to give
Everyone should listen with open ears
To this tragic story until no one’s here
Then, it might be put on the shelf
And history might repeat itself.

I originally wrote this for a contest at the local theater which was giving a live performance of *The Diary of Anne Frank* for which I received an honorable mention. I wanted to share this poem on the Holocaust. Notice the couplets are grouped into stanzas by different aspects of the war. 2, 4, 6, and 8 lines per stanza.
"Those that fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it."
