And That is All I Can Offer
I am sorry you are in pain because of me
I know how that feels
To be hollow and empty
I try so hard to fill you with my love
But you are hurt and so my love slides out through the cracks
Maybe you retain a few drops of my love
Maybe like a resilient flower you will absorb those few drops
And with them you will nurture yourself back to where we can speak
But perhaps you are too hurt.
I will continue to try to water you with my love
But water does not fix the cracks in the pot
I do not know where the cracks come from
Nor how many I caused through my own carelessness
How can I expect to be a gardener
When my most prized flower has wilted
I try to bring the sun in my smile
But often I myself am in the shadows
You are the flower and you,
For now,
encompass the pot you are in
And when things are good I pretend that the cracks do not exist
And you seal them somehow to keep up the image
But sometimes I proverbially drop you and your cracks show
And I worry that they will prevent you from retaining my love
And that is all I can offer
