Pass me the pepper please,
That I may taste but one flavor
Of the life that I'm missing.

Pass me a fork please,
That I may take just one bite
And take a risk to learn from.

Pass me a knife please,
That I may slice through obstacles
And become a leader.

Pass me the water please,
That I may take just one drink
And enjoy the simple things.

Pass me a napkin please,
That I may clean up my messes
And move on with my life.

But...

Deprive me of these things
And I'll pass you this shovel,
That you may use...

...To dig my grave

This is poem both about oppression, and a sort of cry for help, in a sense that one is asking for the skills needed to gain strong independence.
