Ode of the Mountain
A blue peak juts out into the heavens
It holds back the suns wrathful rays
I bask in its shrinking shadow
As vengeful light pours over the top like water over a dam
But the horrid sun does not defeat the mountain
It only reveals the wonderful life that lives upon it
The trees are emeralds on the mountain’s back
The rivers are blue sapphires on his face
The dazzling stone is his awesome body
I scale this wise creature
I seek his counsel by reaching his peak
As I climb I see the mountain’s weaker brothers
Who fail to reach his heights or might
Finally I reach the pinnacle
Yet I have not conquered him
I am miniscule and fragile
The mountain is old and I am so young
He will face the ages and I will fade so quickly
He is a king of this world and I am but a lowly serf
There are those who think the mountain silent
But they have not seen him defeat the sun
Or him harbour life upon his massive body
Or stood upon his head
And taken in the enormity of his existence
