I Swear By Something I Cannot Name
Run, run as fast as I dare,
You can’t catch me, but wait you can.
With shadows that cackle and twist inside,
I’ve got everywhere to run but nowhere to hide.
Where is my shelter? Where is my rock?
Within my soul? Nay, it is broken, I forgot.
How shall I mend, how shall I climb,
When all feels lost, but there is nothing to find?
My fate hangs on the edge of a blade
As I try to strangle my pain, drown my rage.
And though I tear myself apart,
I find no strength inside my heart.
Yet something is there I cannot name.
Some-thing that denies my shame.
And by this I swear and deeply trust:
Ere I die and turn to dust,
I shall conquer you, oh great One,
My Fear.
