Ashes
Today I reread my old diaries
Relived the childhood fantasies
A world of exquisite imagination
The bliss of innocence
Somewhere along the road of growing up
That spark of life disappeared
Smothered under the weight
Of gossips and identities
Fairy tales replaced by classic texts
The bubble of magic popped
After the first week of Chemistry
A hidden world forever locked
By the wraths of Facebook, MySpace, Twitter
And now I pull on my glossy, brushed hair
Rub my make-up laden eyes
Pinch my carefully moisturized skin
Bite my colorful, trimmed fingernails
Waiting for something to light up
An inspiration to ignite that spark
But the stones upon the fire
Are hard and heavy
A flame cannot start without oxygen
And the air is crushed
From my lungs
By the pressure and expectations
So I try, I fail, I fall
Into the webs of society
The spark is no more
