Exhaustion

Every movement is like
The last steps of a marathon.
My legs are being stabbed with
A thousand knives all at once.
My mind can hardly counter the thoughts
That tell me to stop and rest.

I struggle to be strong
And to not just give in and walk.
Slowly, every muscle is turning into stone,
Getting heavier and heavier.
I even think that they might just crumble
And fall to the ground with me.

And as I near the finish,
My entire body is dipped in lava,
And my mind fights with itself
Even more loudly than ever before.
But then I reach the end
Just before my entire body collapses.

Great poem! I especially loved the line "my entire body is dipped in lava", because since I run cross-country for high school, I know what that pain feels like.
