This is me grasping
one last desperate attempt at making
myself heard.
This is me finding a friend
to confide in, when all of my words
come out wrong.
This is me trying to put a puzzle
back together,
but it’s impossible when the complete picture
isn’t there- and I have no idea where I’m headed.
This is me pausing at the edge of a cloud high in the sky
and wondering if I should jump-
doesn’t seem right but everyone else is doing it.
What a strange world we live in,
advertise how we all want to stand out as individuals but
by the end of the day we are all mindless drones who get
pulled into the tide.
This is me crumbling papers
and kicking stones.
This is me laughing with my friends
but crying into my pillow when I’m alone.
This is me skittering in the wind like a leaf
with absolutely no control over my life.
This is me smiling on the outside
but feeling like a failure.
This is me pretending I belong
but knowing I’m a stranger.
This is me having rotten emotions
at the end of the day.
This is me stuck in a haze
and not even trying to get out.

No, that was the old me.

Now this is me making
a victory fist in the air.
This is me knowing and growing,
absorbing sunlight and loving life.
This is me greeting challenges
with open arms.
This is me taking a stand
to what I believe.
This is me not jumping
hoops for anyone.
This is me laughing my heart out
and smiling for real.
This is me getting up
and moving against the flow-
it’s flowing down.
This is me taking pride in choices
and walking ahead in life with confidence.

This is me running to meet potential.
