Clay.
Why don’t I stay still for once –
and by “I” I mean my mind,
buzz-stuttering,
my legs,
stutter-jumping,
my heart,
jump-starting –
Why don’t I stay still for once
and rest my eyelids on your shamefully chewed fingernails.
Why don’t you sing for once –
and by “sing” I mean laugh,
hoarse-yelping,
smile,
yelp-silent,
touch,
silent-tracing –
Why don’t you sing for once,
notes slicing up my spine.
Why don’t we play happy for once –
and by “happy” I mean hungry,
hearts growling –
ready,
hands aching –
glowing,
tongues sparking –
Why don’t we play happy for once,
and turn our clay bodies into mud.
