An Unfortunate Tale
He turns,
Forging a new path,
Running away,
From what could have been.
She’s paralyzed,
Watching him run,
Forced to stand there,
Pleading to go after him.
He wants to leave her behind,
He doesn’t want to hurt her,
He is scarred,
He is pained.
She reaches out,
Hoping to catch him,
But he slips through her fingers.
She must turn away.
He wanted to stay,
But he knew he would hurt her.
He loved her too much,
He let himself fall.
She cries openly,
Hoping for him to see,
What pain he caused her.
He had tried to warn her.
What happened to him,
He never wanted to say,
Until he met her.
She was the cage covering his heart.
He poured himself open,
Letting the tears fall,
He never wanted,
To be without her.
She felt a tear in her chest,
She wanted to hold him,
She wanted to love him,
She knew he would never let her again.
He turned around,
Only to see her there,
Standing with love,
Spilling out of her.
He kept walking away,
Too afraid to walk back,
Scared of what she might say,
Scared of what he might feel.
He loved her,
But he was too afraid,
He was too jaded,
He was in love.
She loves him,
And she always will,
One day,
She will share this Unfortuante Tale.
So that no one will have to feel,
The loneliness,
The abandonment,
The purest love being ripped away.
Fingertips grasp,
At the one thing,
No one can ever have,
She guards herself too hard.
Her heart only beats,
For one man.
His heart,
Is still in her hands.
