America
America, your soul is tarnished
Swallowed up whole by the war.
Soldiers litter the floor
The stench of rotting flesh and fresh death cling to your dress.
America, you are choking on our gasses
Toxic waste making it rain acid
Atom bombs making it rain ashes
When you cry, the tears are of the soaked blood
When you laugh, it's the hollow and cold sound of gun shots.
America, you fear the sharp edged knives of deceit
America, you are haunted by the ghosts of the World Trade Center
The government's hands are clasped around your neck,
burning your flesh and stealing your breath.
Your children have stolen your freedom
Shredded you to pieces with their chains of segregation and separation
Hate fuels the wars and the wars fuel the deaths, the bloodshed, the never ending river of tears.
Corpses hang from the tree of life,
swords of false promises forced through their skulls
No longer the land of the gold but of the dead.
The reaper dances on your grave, mocking you
Tying your hands behind your back
Leaving you blind as you fight off the power hungry people that you have birthed.
America, your soul is tarnished
Swallowed up whole by the war.

My poem does that as well, but with a more modern take.
