oblivious to the world
seagulls screech
plastic bags fly by as children give chase
lips stained by popsicles
sailboats bobbing far beyond
droplets of white in a sea of blue
waiting for me to take my paintbrush
and decorate the sky
when we step outside our air conditioned car
the heat slams into us
like a door after an argument
buildings loom far above
as if they are god
laughing at us humans
trapped in an illusion of power
people pass
in suits and skirts
dresses and shorts
on phones and laptops
completely oblivious
to the world
