Lover of Your Past
Tell me a story of a true love that lasts,
tell me of him, the lover of your past,
Was he your prince? Did he make you believe?
Believe that he would be yours and never leave?
Was your lover strong? Did he sweep you off your feet?
I bet he kept you safe, made your soul feel complete,
I bet he was tall and handsome exactly what you dreamed,
but maybe this boy wasn’t all that he seemed,
because monsters are people and people are real,
did he promise he loved you each time you would kneel?
Did he swear one day you would get married in white?
I’m sure he assured your everlasting love was right,
because boys are heartbreakers and liars too,
they tell you stories and make you think love is true,
but it’s not you see because everything decays,
it’s the stars, the moon, that make things that way,
tell me a story of a true love that lasts,
tell me of him, the lover of your past.
