"For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone." - Audrey Hepburn

I am one stone,
pristine and glistening.
The portal to Heaven's open gates,
standing still
in sharp sunlight.

I am not remembered with flags
or photographs
or fingertips pressed against me,
that caresse cold marble, so soon
after wiping tears from a puffy face
and spill onto those worn blue jeans
that remind her of me.

I am only a name,
carefully engraved,
with hands steady as the surgeon I would be
when I got home, like
I promised her.

One name amongst many,
a wish forgotten story,
filled with lost dreams,
but at least
a name.

This is a poem I wrote about visiting Arlington National Cemetery. The experience was overwhelming, so I chose to write from the point of view of one of our lost heroes. I'm so grateful for their sacrifice.

Powerful impact. Real and deep. Great clarity and depth of insight. Truly sad yet upheld as heroic. Beautiful poem! Would you please comment on my poem titled I am the Mother of War? I would love your take on it.

Very mature insight...you have a certain emotion weaved into this poem that signifies importance. Great effort!
