Hope=F***ed Over
She was remembering his face
Stared at him in her mind
Looked into his brown eyes
Trying to really see him
Find what she was looking for
She knew there was more to him
Than this pretense
His tenancies to misbehave
And his reputation of being a player
Behind the desperateness in those eyes
(For he hadn't had a smoke in weeks)
Was something deeper
A desperate need for connection
Real kindness and love
Someone that could help him
Beat the craving in his head
Be consistent enough to make him stop
And she knew she could be that for him
She reached out to him
Tried to make him see all he could be
Everything she knew he was deep down
And perhaps he knew too
Because he seemed to hang around
Maybe
She thought
He felt for her too
The hope was what kept her trying
Putting up with his addictions
And misguided choices
Maybe he would see her
And they could make each other happy
