Why has my daddy gone?
They say to fight the war.
But WHY has Daddy gone?
Who is War? What's it for?

War must be why
mommies cry themselves to sleep
It must be why
we know, but pretend not to see.

War is what makes our cakes
not so sweet
Why Mommy always works
but there's nothing good to eat

Mommy gave my cars away
she says they're for the army
but what game does army play?
Why must they take mine from me?

War is who makes little boys
have to grow up and
give away all their toys
even though it's tough.

A man came to the door
and handed Mom a flag.
She fell down on the floor
and her smile began to sag.

Her big tears fell fast
like rain falls on the ground.
A dark cloud covered her eyes
She said "Dad has been found."

War must be why some dads
just don't get to come home.
War must be why I am sad.
Why I feel so alone.
