A Hero, In Disguise
Young, wild,
Restless and free.
We used to play,
On the swings,
In the fort, the woods.
We would stay up
For hours,
Laughing, talking,
About life,
A blanket covering
Our thoughts,
A light illuminating
Our faces.
We were always
Together,
Never apart.
A family
Within ourselves.
Friends for life
We always said.
Who knew,
When we talked
About going to war,
We said,
Go ahead.
Still young, still
Wild, and free
I stay
Up at night,
Rereading the
Letter that
You sent to me.
About how
Times used to be.
Still young,
No longer wild,
Fighting for the free.
I lay in my cot.
Writing to you.
About how times
used to be.
Cherishing the way,
We spent every day.
