To Be Loved
It is not so much the setting of the sun or the promise of its return
that quiets my insecurities once night falls.
No, it is the glowing moon suspended in its forgiving brilliance.
Thank god the stars don’t judge us for what we do beneath them,
thank god they do not see the evil we commit under their names.
Tell me I am beautiful, tell me my eyes shine with everything pure and good,
and I will love you with the fire of a thousand burning suns,
I will love you with the patience of Orion and the tolerance of the moon.
